Lost King Penguin in South Africa

November 1, 2019 – A king penguin recently swam up on at Buffels Bay beach in Cape Point Reserve in South Africa nearly 3,000 miles from his Antarctic home. Although this is a strange site to see, this has happened before. Penguins travel throughout the South Sea in search of food; this penguin just went a little further than most. South African National Parks is urging the public to keep a distance from the penguin as he is being monitored over the next few days. Nicky Stander from SANCCOB said the penguin appears healthy. The hope is the king will return back to his natural habitat in the Antarctic soon. What is your reaction to this unusual news? Do you think the penguin got lost? Did the penguin get “penguin-napped” by fisherman and dropped off in South Africa? Is it a cold-weather penguin wanting a “tropical,” vacation?
